But how? Offering a supporting cast of comical characters, a dash of philosophy and generous dose of surprises, the energetic story calls to mind Sid Hite's farm-family fantasies. Holding herself responsible for the unfortunate transformation, Louise determines to set things right. The next thing she knows, brother Willie is gone soon after, a big white pig with ""sky blue"" eyes like Willie's mysteriously appears. ""Be careful what you wish for"" is the lesson that resounds (a bit too loudly) throughout this offbeat fairy tale set in Tollivers' Hollow, ""said to be a peculiar place, even a perilous place."" Farm girl Louise calls her brother a pig at the exact moment she wishes upon a star. 7/6/2023 0 Comments Finding my pack by lane whittNever in my life have a I read a book that accurately depicts the mindset of a successful poly-amorous household, within a YA, let alone to this caliber. The fact that this book could change my mind COMPLETELY about 5 characters, while having NINE main characters in total? Says something about the author's character development abilities!! Now, I'm SO deadly curious to see where this goes. At first I wanted our heroine to have NOTHING to do with 3/8 of the guys, and 2 others had already been seriously friend zoned in my mind. Being the over sensual pervert I am) between hot intimate moments, and outstanding character development. This book has the PERFECT balance ( for me, anyway. I absolutely LOVE a story that can be EXTREMELY sexy, while not being ABOUT sex. Where does Finding My Pack rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far? I love when sexual encounters naturally manifest!! They ended up in a refugee camp in Kenya, where Ilhan says she came to understand the deep meaning of hunger and death. This book will give you insight into the person and sister that I see-passionate, caring, witty, and above all committed to positive change. "Ilhan has been an inspiring figure well before her time in Congress. " This Is What America Looks Like is the origin story of a leader who, finding no set path that would take a person like her to the places she wanted to go, was forced, and free, to chart her own." -The New York Times Book Review Named a Best Political Book of the Year by The Atlantic But now the job she loved is no more.ĭetermined to make a new life for herself, Nina moves to a sleepy village many miles away. Ross titled the letter “De Profundis,” which translates to “from the depths.” The complete, unedited letter would not appear until 1962. An abridged version of the letter was published five years after Wilde’s death in 1900 by a former lover and close friend, Robert Ross. It was not until his release in May of the same year that Wilde was given possession of the letter in full. He wrote it between January and March 1897, while imprisoned in Reading Gaol for “gross indecency”-i.e., sexual relations with other men. “De Profundis” is a letter written by Oscar Wilde to his former student, friend, and lover Lord Alfred Douglas, whom he refers to as Bosie. 7/5/2023 0 Comments Otsuichi black fairy taleGood characterisation Great blending of stories Writing Cons: If you’re into that kind of thing, you will definitely enjoy this book I am, and I certainly did! Readers who are only familiar with the sanitized Disney versions of fairy tales might not recognize the similarities, but this book certainly feels inspired by some of the darkest tales collected by Alexander Afanasyev, Charles Perrault, and Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm. The title of the novel, Black Fairy Tale, is remarkably apt. Three story lines are seamlessly interwoven, but the true nature of the connection is only revealed in the final pages. The Witch Elm, shockingly, is fucking terrible and you should not read it. But then The Witch Elm came out, and it was standalone, and I finally didn’t have to wait an extra year to read a new Tana French book after it came out. The only thing that was preventing me from doing it was that all of her previous books have been part of a series, and I am the type of person for whom it matters that the books in the series wouldn’t match on the shelf. I have everything she’s ever written, she’s shown up on my 10 Best Books list at the end of the year at least a couple of times, and for the last several titles I have been debating upgrading her to the list of authors whose books I buy in hardcover. |
